Lunging as Dialogue & Training Therapy
Is your horse ready to start again after a break from training or an injury? Would you like to prepare your young horse for its first steps under saddle? Are you looking for more variety and ideas for working together on the ground?
Because good training protects and strengthens the horse.
Lunging is an important part of training a (riding) horse and keeping it healthy. Based on human body language and aids that are logical for the horse, a dialogue of movement develops that allows the horse to build new, physiologically sound movement patterns. Even horses that have developed unwanted behaviour such as bucking or pulling away during conventional lunging on the circle can be reintroduced to this form of groundwork through this approach.
Taking individual conformation and existing findings into account, I complement lunging with elements of training therapy. Targeted training stimuli and rest days help you avoid overloading or incorrect strain while still training meaningfully within your horse’s current capabilities. It is particularly important to me that you understand the connections: which training content is done, for how long and at what intervals.
Classical Riding
Would you like more harmony and joy when moving together with your horse? Riding can be light and refined!
The foundation for successful and fair communication from the saddle is the rider’s seat. Small changes in the seat can often improve existing problems or even solve them. That is why my riding lessons focus on developing a balanced, independent seat that goes with the horse’s movement, which I teach through individual seat training.
In classical riding lessons, I want to give you a deeper understanding of the purpose of different exercises and the aids that go with them. Gymnastic work and movement should be enjoyable for both of you. I give you varied exercises to support your horse in a meaningful way. A harmonious partnership between horse and human and respectful interaction as equals are the basis of my work.
Alongside my lessons, I am also happy to offer training rides to take your horse’s education further or to resolve misunderstandings.
Overcoming Fear & Stress with Your Horse
Have you lost the ease with your horse? Do you drive to the barn with an uneasy feeling? Does everyday life with your horse often lead to conflict?
I support you with empathy – as a social pedagogue and riding therapist with an eye for what lies behind the fear. Together we find out what is holding you back with your horse.
In the first part of our work together, we focus on your inner world: thought patterns, self-worth, fears and insecurities. You learn techniques that help you stay able to act in emotionally challenging situations. In the second part, we go to the horse – at your pace. Step by step, we look at what already works well and then focus on your specific challenges: whether it is fear while riding, insecurity when handling your horse, or your horse’s behaviour. The two often influence each other.
The goal is refined communication and a harmonious relationship with your horse in which you feel safe. So you can enjoy your time together with ease again.
Why is support with fear and stress part of “Pferdetraining klassisch gesund”?
Being afraid of your own horse can be paralysing. It shows itself very individually, as flight or fight. For our horses, this often means too little exercise, missing training stimuli, or the use of supposed training aids and dominance exercises. None of this addresses the cause of the fear; instead it leads to unhappy, explosive and stressed horses. To resolve fear and stress for good, you need to work on yourself and on the way you fundamentally communicate with your horse. Only those who can act with their horse free of fear and stress have laid the foundation for classical, health-preserving training.

What my students say

Klare Empfehlung, so guten Unterricht findet man selten!
Der Unterricht bei Franzi ist super! Sehr verständlich, strukturiert und lehrreich!
Hello and welcome,
my name is Franziska Rösel. I offer groundwork and lunging lessons with a cavesson, as well as seat training and riding lessons for leisure riders with their own horse in Ulm and the surrounding area. My work follows the principles of classical riding, with the aim of keeping your horse healthy in the long term through physiologically sound training.
As a riding therapist, it is especially important to me to respond to the individual needs of horse and human and to share the joy of moving together. I want to help you train your horse into a calm and reliable leisure partner, much like a therapy horse, so that you can enjoy your time together safely and without fear.
Do you have questions or are you interested in my lessons? Feel free to get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you.

Social pedagogue (M.A.) · Riding therapist · Trainer for Lunging as Dialogue & Training TherapyAbout me
Horses have fascinated and drawn me in since I was a child. My first contact with horses was shaped by bucking school horses and being told to assert myself. My first attempts at riding were trial and error. For a long time I didn’t understand what I was doing or how it could be done better.
After many years of seeking out horses mainly in my free time, I soon wanted to work with horses professionally and to teach a fair way that both sides can understand. So I added training as a riding therapist at the Institut für Experientielle Reittherapie in Elzach to my degree in social pedagogy. This was followed by internships with a wide range of horse trainers and the search for a logical, meaningful training concept for horse and human.
I found it in my training with OsteoDressage: a horse-friendly concept that combines classical riding with osteopathic assessment and the latest findings from sports science, and that anyone can learn. Working at the OsteoDressage training centre in 2021/2022, I was able to work with and learn from many different training and rehabilitation horses. Since early 2023 I have been offering mobile training in Ulm and keep developing my skills.
